Rookie-Ball Day of Champions

by

After an exciting 11-weeks of baseball, the 2012 Rookie-Ball house-league season came to a close this past Saturday.

Each team engaged in one game and from the sites and sounds, all the kids had a great time.
There were many great hits, plays and shouts of encouragement heard throughout the Kingsville Minor baseball diamonds.

After the games wrapped up, an exciting and tense home-run derby took place.
It was a tremendous turnout as over half the kids threw their caps into the ring and attempted to win this years crown as home-run champ.

Owen Barnes was the first to hit one over the markers. The powerful, young lefty, lofted a deep ball over the cones to put himself into the lead.
Shortly after, Blake Mayville also sent one deep to tie his teammate and put himself in place for a chance to take the trophy in a possible sudden-death shootout.

Not to be outdone, Carter Dyck stepped up to the plate and blasted an opposite-field dinger to push for a three-way tie.

With the batters list winding down, Rachel LaRocque came to the plate with a big bat, and an even bigger smile and dug into the right side of the plate.
On her second pitch she sent a ball deep into dead centre to put one long-ball onto the scorecard.
After a few more well, and hard hit balls that never quite made it to the markers, Rachel gripped her bat and took a powerful cut at her next pitch. It resulted in another towering shot that cleared the markers by a good dozen feet.

When the dust had settled, Rachel had taken home this years trophy for home run champion.

Congratulations Rachel!

As a final word now that the season has come to a close, I would like to say that I hope everyone had as much fun this year as I have helping to organize it.

This year we had 52 kids registered this season and 34 of them were new to the division.
But with superb coaching and a willingness to learn, all of our rookie ball players improved immensely as did our veterans who took these young players under their wings to show them the ropes.

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make 2012 a great season! We couldn’t have done it without you!

KMB would also like to thank our sponsors, Dr R. McCormick, Dr R.Molzan Optometrists, Warkentin Plumbing, Schroeder Electric, and The Mighty Docs medical team.

I hope to see all of the eligible players return next season for another great year of baseball!

Thank-you!
